History: Stories of the Past

History is the narrative story of the past, which were unique or strange in some sense. It is a study of happenings in the past that affected the human beings. The word history came from ancient Greek ‘historίa’, which means ‘knowledge form inquiry’. Today I thought to touch this topic for my blog, because I personally feel that studying history is quite thrilling, be it about the Rana regime, World Wars, Biographies of famous dictators, struggles of world leaders, numerous mass movements and revolutions throughout the world or the International affairs of the past. Studying it not only makes us aware about it, but each story teaches us an important lesson for life. Plus it is always good to know about the past.

History can be a lesson for all those who haven’t gone through it, while there is also no denial to the fact that it could have been suffering for all those who went through it. Some events of the past could be a pride to remember, whereas some could be a pain in memory. As a matter of fact, history is created by the conquerors or the victorious ones where as the other ones are erased form the history. Whatever it is, one must always know about it for his/her own sake. History was usually included under the Social Studies in the Secondary level, but I feel that it is an entirely separate subject once everything is learnt in detail, which is also why it is an entirely different section in the libraries. It is also necessary that history has to be written being impartial and the absolute truth, without twisting or stretching, should only be included and read. This is necessary because I have heard of many “Conspiracy Theories” about various events which only leaves us in confusion about the actual truth.  I had acquaintance with a few books related to history. Each of them were remarkable and grabbed my entire concentration.

So I would like to conclude my blog by saying that History is a really fascinating subject to study or know unless one has to remember the dates or the entire timeline for exams. Thus, learning history is useful as well as interesting, because a philosopher named George Santayana once said, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it”.
