The Art of Procrastination: Easing the Present

Procrastination is the action of postponing the work for the future. But I like to define it as depositing today’s tasks for tomorrow for no apparent reason. It is a way of saving some work for tomorrow in order to get rid of it today. It is also an excuse for not doing something at the present. It is a habitual and intentional characteristics of the human beings and this avoidance to do work at the present can be a reason for accumulation of tons of work for the future, even after knowing the ugly consequences. Procrastination makes the present a little easier and the future a little more difficult. But avoiding some of the tasks can really cause a hitch.

The main devotees of the procrastination are us, students who are the actual of devotees and maestro of this art. And this is not my personal opinion. In fact, a survey was conducted that found out that 70% of the surveyed students believed that they were procrastinators. By seeing the above data, I feel that the procrastination is pretty trendy these days, especially among the youth. We usually avoid a work if it is challenging enough, if one are afraid of the failure of the work or if one doesn’t believe that he/she can do it. It is only not possible to procrastinate during exams and submitting in deadlines. Elsewhere we procrastinate as far as we can; to see a dentist, to do the assignment, to study for exam, to do physical exercise, to go on a diet etc. But sometimes I feel like I should have procrastinated for a day more when I find my work to be incorrect especially when some new information arrives. Otherwise the procrastination always has some negative consequences waiting to be unwrapped in the future, like burning midnight oil to complete or to delay the work to be done in future even more lately. This could also result in failure of one’s academics or getting sacked from the job if the procrastinating nature becomes extremely dominating in one’s life.

Whatever I say against procrastinating, I procrastinated some other job and enjoyed writing a blog for now. So I would like to conclude this blog by saying that everyone procrastinates once in a while, and it is quite natural to procrastinate as we cannot live a minute more than 24 hours a day, however it is also certain that the procrastinated tasks will definitely show up someday in the future.
