Corona Virus: The 2020 Threat

The year 2020 has not been kind to us, human beings from the very beginning. We saw and heard of many natural disasters, diseases and deaths this year. However the pandemic caused by the Corona virus tops the list of all the disasters as it had caused the highest number of deaths and illness all over the world. The disease caused by this virus is called COVID-19. These two words “Corona” and “COVID” has become most spoken and most heard word in every household. The number of infected patients are rising daily and death tolls have been increasing. The entire world is suffering from it. On one hand the virus is spreading widely all over the world. Even after a long lockdown, the condition wasn’t stable due to which restrictions have been imposed all over the country. The number of patients are increasing daily. While on the other hand, the global economy is lowering. Thousands of people have lost their jobs. Many people are facing economic crisis. The schools,...

Post Class Reflection: Week 7

Today we attended one more English class taught by Eak sir, so I thought to write a Post Class Reflection on today’s class. Today’s class was mostly about Technical Communication where we learnt about various types of the reports. Then we went through the literature portion and saw presentations of an essay. First of all, one of our friend presented on “Travel Report” that has to be written like memo. This travel report had to be written after visiting a place and had to include all the details of the journey, destination and the various arrangements that had been arranged throughout the journey. This type of report could include specific tasks that had been done or observed at the destination and its techniques as well as the tools and the material used. Then few questions were asked on the topic and the presentation ended. Then the other friends presented on “Recommendation Report and Feasibility Report”.  A  recommendation report is usual...

TIME

Time is a dimension which passes at a constant rate and progresses with the sequence of events that are taking place around us. Time is a valuable wealth that never comes back once it passes. It is also a measure of how fast or slow the things are happening. It passes at its own rate to never return back, which is why an English proverb becomes true, “Time and Tide waits no Man”, which we hear time and again in numerous articles, speeches and blogs. This simply means that the moment that has just passed never comes back and the moment that we are living or spending is also going to pass quietly.   On the other hand, time is also a factor that brings fortune and misfortune in the lives of people. Time is never the same in anyone’s life. Time brings a rainfall of happiness with it and takes it away along with it like wind. Time can be a teacher as well. Each passing moment might not be teaching something. But most valuable lessons of life, that cannot be taught by anyone in th...

Post Class Reflection (Week 6, Friday)

An hour of English in the first hour of our online classes on a Good Friday was all we needed to refresh ourselves for the whole day. One more important yet quite spell binding class of English was attended by all of us. The presentations delivered today were from the Literature part, which I look forward to enjoy it. Today the presentations were Jared Diamond’s “Adaptive Failure: Easter’s End” and Pedro Antonio de Alarcόn, “The Stub Book”. Firstly of all, the presentation on “Adaptive Failure: Easter’s End” was really engrossing as well as gave a really important message to the entire humanity that how lack of awareness, carelessness of people and over-exploitation of the resources could turn a paradise-on-Earth, Easter Island into a complete wasteland. This was a research based essay and thoroughly described the failure of inhabitants of the Easter Island to take care of their place, due to which their civilization got erased forever. It was an essay for everyone around the globe t...

History: Stories of the Past

History is the narrative story of the past, which were unique or strange in some sense. It is a study of happenings in the past that affected the human beings. The word history came from ancient Greek ‘historίa’, which means ‘knowledge form inquiry’. Today I thought to touch this topic for my blog, because I personally feel that studying history is quite thrilling, be it about the Rana regime, World Wars, Biographies of famous dictators, struggles of world leaders, numerous mass movements and revolutions throughout the world or the International affairs of the past. Studying it not only makes us aware about it, but each story teaches us an important lesson for life. Plus it is always good to know about the past.      History can be a lesson for all those who haven’t gone through it, while there is also no denial to the fact that it could have been suffering for all those who went through it. Some events of the past could be a pride to remember, w...

Post Class Reflection: Week 6

“Knowledge is a treasure that follows its owner everywhere.” So with this positive note, I would like to begin post class reflection of today’s English class, which was as spell binding as the previous classes. One and half hours of learning with equally interesting interactions and discussions with Eak sir was all I needed to write this blog. Today we mainly discussed on Technical Communications part, where we learnt how to write “Incident Reports” and “Lab Reports”.   Firstly few of my friends presented on “Incident Reports”. It was a type of report which was written by the observer of some kind of incident especially damage of physical property or some kind of mishap. These kinds of reports had to answer all types of Wh-questions i.e. what, where, when, etc. regarding that incident such as place, time, cause, effect and damage caused. A reader of the incident report had to understand the entire scenario of the incident and its effects. It had to be completely different...

Post Class Reflection (Week 5, Friday)

Today I attended one more important yet interesting class of English taught by Eak sir. Today was an important class for me because I had to deliver my presentation today along with my teammate. This was an opportunity for me to deliver a presentation in the online medium. So my heart was filled with both excitement and fear. Our physical classes could not take place since the beginning of this semester due to the Corona Virus, so we had switched to the virtual class which was as effective and efficient as the Normal Classes. We were assigned to present on the poem “Lunatic”, which was a translated version of the Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota’s Nepali Poem “ Pagal”. Although the poem had been originally been written in Nepali language but its essence had not been lost in this foreign language. As interesting is the title, so was the poem, when I first read it few days ago. In the first few stanzas, the poet considers himself as an insane person, who can do so many things that m...

The Art of Procrastination: Easing the Present

Procrastination is the action of postponing the work for the future. But I like to define it as depositing today’s tasks for tomorrow for no apparent reason. It is a way of saving some work for tomorrow in order to get rid of it today. It is also an excuse for not doing something at the present. It is a habitual and intentional characteristics of the human beings and this avoidance to do work at the present can be a reason for accumulation of tons of work for the future, even after knowing the ugly consequences. Procrastination makes the present a little easier and the future a little more difficult. But avoiding some of the tasks can really cause a hitch.      The main devotees of the procrastination are us, students who are the actual of devotees and maestro of this art. And this is not my personal opinion. In fact, a survey was conducted that found out that 70% of the surveyed students believed that they were procrastinators. By seeing the ...

Post Class Reflection (Week 5)

I attended my English class today and it was really wholesome and wonderful. First of all, as a part of our creative learning, Eak sir taught us to write a Diamante poem, which I found pretty interesting. It is a type of poem, in which a word is chosen and words describing it is also written in the successive lines. And then the words describing its antonym is written. And in this way, the entire meaning becomes opposite from the initially preceding word.      Then 2 of my friends presented on “Memo Writing”. Memo was derived from memorandum which meant a message written for business or diplomacy. The memos are generally written to convey message to the staff or workers of any business company, organization or universities. This is a short message written to provide a piece of information or express a problem within them. We also got to know form our teacher Eak sir that although the letters were far more popular or handy, but memo had its own role and...
